Sorry

Sorry for the lack of updates. I have been doing some work where I don't have a lot of time. A little time in the afternoon, and that is mostly it. Sometimes more, but not a lot.

Anyways, I am in a tournament right now and will try to update after that.

Tournament #96580245

Just busted out in 15th.

Got a balance of $97.05 and might play a little more before bed. I am going to try and maybe update in the afternoons and hopefully get back to regular updates.

Update

It has been a week since I have updated the blog. This is only going to be a quick one. I have decided that I am not going to play limit exclusively, but also am going to do my best to stay withing a reasonable bankroll management level. Nothing set in stone, just general guidelines I have in my head.

As for where I am now, I have $83.65 in my account.

I don't know how much I will be playing over the next few days either. I am starting a job as a jockey agent, so that will be taking some more of my time.

Saturday

Just a quick update on yesterday. I played a couple $2.20 SnGs for the Sunday 100K, one won, got a $11 T$ and played two $5.50 SnGs. Finished in 4th and 5th.

I also ended up playing a little 6max .01/.02 NL to change it up a little, and I am moving back down to .05/.10 limit because yesterday was another bad day of .10/.20.

Sorry bout the late/short update. Todays will be better

Update to Fridays Post

I went out for a bit, came home and felt good, refreshed, so I played 2 more $4.40s and finished in 25th and 55th. I will be starting today with a $101.28 bankroll. Also, someone mentioned wanting to see some hands in posts, and here is a list of some of the hands I lost with yesterday. I am going to start to add some more in daily as time goes on, I promise.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881635

Now I understand that I got a little lucky on the flop to catch the jack, but I would rather see annie catch the king than the gutshot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881640

Looking back now, I guess I could have 3 bet the flop since there were 2 spades, but I still question whether it would have gotten saras to fold. Also, with 3 limpers in front of you, do you still raise this hand from the BB, or check it away.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881645

I guess I just play too tight at times, but I hate when there is a raised pot, 25 overcards, and people still call to hit their set.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881663

By the river I knew that I was beat, but I called anyways out of frustrastion. It is amazing how many times you can flop 2 pair and lose.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881687

I think I got a hammerlock on this hand after the flop, then not sure after the turn, and a sick river. I am only slightly better than a 7/1 favorite here after the flop?

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881700

I could only sit in amazement when I saw the end of this hand. I guess this is a type of hand that I have to work more on at 6-max. Is it really a check/call to the river?

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881703

I am sure I could have saved a few bets at the end, but I just LOLed after this one.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881715

I don't fault the play, just hate the river.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881718

Sigh!!!

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881720

Another Sigh. Better than 9/1 favorite on this flop

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881727

Dont think anything could have changed here. Guess I just didn't want to hit 2 pair.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881732

I was in bad shape after the flop here, and the turn just made it look so much better. How does the guy not raise any turn or river bet?

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2881737

Great turn card, horrible river card.

A Losing Day

I am done early today. I have had a bad day already, and feel like I am ready to tilt and blow more money, so I just closed my Pokerstars client.

I played 2 of the $4.40 180 man tourneys,and didn't cash in either.

As for the cash games, I played 668 hands and had a loss of $7.05. Nothing went right, and I just couldnt take it anymore.

Might watch a couple movies today. Have a good one, and hopefully tomorrow I will return with a clean mind.

Back To A Normal Day

Well, today was more of a normal day. I didn't have a 20BB/100 hand type of day. I like those nice days, but glad to see something a little more normal.

I logged about 5.5 hours, which has been pretty close to the norm recently, between 4 and 7 hours. 1761 hands later I managed to increase my bankroll by $15.49, a 4.4 BB/100 hand rate.

It is amazing to notice how many hands I am actually playing. In the 3 weeks and 1 day since I started this bankroll building challenge, I have played 35,533 hands, or just about 12k hands a week. As the months start to add up, I can only imagine the hands that I can get played, and the experience that will come with them.

I have also had a request to add some more hand histories to the blog, and I hope that as I start reviewing sessions, there are going to be some hands I post to discuss show, though they might not always be from that days session.

Anyways, I am starting to get tired, so it is off to watch a movie then bed. Have a good night.

Over The $100 Mark

Today was a GREAT day for the .10/.20 tables I played, and a HORRIBLE day for the .05/.10 tables I played. I also accidently sat for 3 hands of .02/.04. I also treated myself to a $2.22 MTT that I busted out of the money.

In the tournament, 6 hands in I get AA against KK on King high board, and was almost immediately down to 300 chips. I end up getting back on track, but was still shorthanded a bit, and got to push with KJs from the SB against a MP raiser who had A9. Flop is jack high with an ace on the river, and I was out in 215th place, with 144 places paid I think.

As for the cash games, I accidently sat at a .02/.04 table and played the 2 blinds and buttons and showed a small profit of $.11. The .05/.10 game didn't go well. I played 640 hands with a lost of $7.38. Very very bad. Nothing seemed to go right there, and can't blame any one thing. As for the .10/.20 games which were usually 2 of the 4 tables, though at times was 3 of 4 tables I played, I played 876 hands and a profit of $35.10 which is an amazing 20.03 BB/100 hands. It is amazing to see how much the rake adds up with each level you go up.

I am almost to the point that I can play some games that will actually earn me some FPPs that I can hopefully start to use as a "bonus" since Pokerstars has no rakeback, though I may start to use them in FPP satellites to earn T$ that I can use to add to my bankroll. I think that after a week or so, as long as there isn't a couple bad days, I will be bankrolled enough to start the .25/.50 games, but I am going to try and get about 10k hands at .10/.20 before I do that.

I also just wanted to mention that if anyone else has a poker blog and wants to share links, just let me know.

Keep On Truckin

Today was another good day on the tables. I have added the .10/.20 table into the mix, and it went well, so tomorrow will feature two .05/.10 tables and two .10/.20 tables. This is starting to build the bankroll quicker.

I ended up playing almost 1900 hands today, with 479 at .10/.20 and 1417 at .05/.10, and had a profit of $16.66. The .10/.20 game showed a profit of $13.92 for a whopping 14.53BB/100 hands, and only a profit of $2.74 in the .05/.10 game. Part of the huge day in the .10/.20 game I think comes from my 67% showdown win percentage in it.

As mentioned earlier, I am going to play 2 tables of each game tomorrow and go from there. I am tired, and cutting this short. Until tomorrow.

7-7, A Good Day

Another positive day, though it could have been better. I tilted a little towards the end of my last session, and ended up costing myself about $1.50. That is something that I need to start doing less of for sure.

I got a late start today after having to do some work and taking a nap, but I still managed to play 1665 hands while showing a profit of $7.92. A few of the big hands didn't do so well for me today. I had AA 10 times and a profit of only .34. KK 5 times, lost .22, QQ lost .02, AQ suited lost $1.35, mostly because of me flopping TPTK, and a guy catching runner runner flush with 68 suited.

I am going to start to add some .10/.20 tables over the next couple of days. I am going to just add one tomorrow, see how that goes, and re-evaluate afterwards. It is nice to be able to start moving up already again, and just hope that this can continue to be profitable.

Since I have started this challenge, I played 20,830 hands of .02/.04 6 max, profiting $27.68 with a 3.32BB/100 hand winrate. I have played 9192 hands of .05/.10 6 max and a profit of $44.57 and a 4.85BB/100 hand winrate. I have obviously played fewer hands of .05/.10 than I did .02/.04, but I will still be getting some more hands of .05/.10 before I end up to the higher levels for good. Tomorrow for instance, I should end up with about 3/4 of my total hands at .05/.10, so it could reach up to 1200 or so, and put me over the 10k hands.

Glancing over some of my Poker Tracker stats, I see that I greatly have to improve my blind play. A glance at the position tab shows a profit of $53.66 from the button, but a loss of $43.84 and a loss of $27.43 in the BB and SB respectively. That is a little dissapointing from a quick look.

Well, I am off of here for the night, and will hope to continue tomorrow.

Starting Bankroll: $60.25

Another Day Gone By

I have one word for today. WOW. It was a crazy day. I started out making a couple bucks right away, then decided I was going to tilt/spew a little, and was then down a couple bucks, and ended up with a few dollar profit for the day.

Still at the .05/.10 limit game, I played 2350 hands today, showing a $4.37 profit. It could have been a little better, but could have been a lot worse as well. I was just happy enough to get to the plus side, and out of the red.

Seems I was getting beat with too many trips, and someone else would have a higher kicker, or I would get trips, only to be beat by someone with a set and then happen to get a boat. I had been running somewhere around a 26/19 game(VPIP/PFR), and today was 21/15. I don't think I did anything different, so maybe just didn't get enough cards :) I obviously got enough value out of the cards that I had though to be able to show the profit.

If this continues, I will have plenty of a roll once I get to start the .10/.20 game. I could start to play now, but feel that I am better off still waiting a little bit just to make sure. I might start adding a game of it on Tuesday, but we will see what tomorrow brings.

This Run Can't Continue Can It????

Well, today was a relatively slow day on the tables. I was doing a few things around the house, and then went out for a bit tonight, so I didnt get as many hands as I have had recently, but can't complain about the results.

I am continuing my run at the .05/.10 game. I was four tabling the .05/.10 most of the day while I was playing, and ended up playing 1006 hands, showing a profit of $9.20, for another 9+BB/100. This run has been great. Todays highlight would have been this hand. With the action, it was nice to hear the guy say that it was tough to lay down TPTK. Hmmmmmmm.

Anyways, til tomorrow, I am off of here. Short on words tonight, and ready for bed.

Happy Fourth of July Everyone

Well, today wasn't as good as the last couple of days, but a profit was shown none the less. I have completely switched over to four .05/.10 tables after starting the day at three .05/.10 and one .02/.04.

I played 2800+ hands today, and showed a profit of $3.59. 2702 hands were .05/.10 and a profit of $3.00. 163 hands of .02/.04 for a profit of $0.59. It is nice to see a normalish winrate today instead of the astronomical ones that I had the last two days. Lets me know that it won't be too crazy.

I am almost to the bankroll amount that I could start to add some .10/.20 games, which I was going to do around $45-$50, but I am going to wait a couple days, maybe a week before doing such, just to make sure that I don't have a bad downswing and have to drop down all the way back to .02/.04. Slow is better than backwards. Maybe after 10k-15k hands of .05/.10 I will move up.

The tournament that I got in last night didn't go so well. I was doing well enough, but then ran into a bad hand. A guy raised about 3x the BB, and I called with 66. A few others called, and on a board of 237, I end up all in against another guy holding TT that happened to cold call right behind me :(

If I am still up at 0132, I plan on getting in the Hubble freeroll, but who knows. Hopefully tomorrow will bring another good day!

Very Profitable Day

Today was another profitable day. I wasn't sure if I was going to be playing much today, and ended up playing almost 2k hands, mixed between 2 tables of .05/.10 and 2 tables of .02/.04.

I played 1047 hands of .05/.10 and showed a profit of $13.36, or 12 BB/100 hands. I had 924 hands of .02/.04 and a profit of $1.00, to have a total profit of $14.36 on the day.

I think that I am going to take the time since I have had 2 great days, to play in one of the 2x chance tournies on Pokerstars, and am getting ready to start it now. It is a $2.22 buyin with one possible rebuy if you bust, so it won't be too bad. I have no plans on using the rebuy. I will update the blog if I happen to make the money.

Another Great Day!!!!

Today is the best day I have had so far in this challenge, and it got me to just over $30. I started today with one table of .05/.10, and three tables of .02/.04. It was a good day, but my next session will include two tables of each.

I played a hair over 1600 hands today, 422 at .05/.10 and 1185 at .02/.04. I had a profit of $6.70 and $3.78 respectively amongst the two levels, showing a profit of $10.48 for the day. There was one hand that really sucked.

I am hoping to play tomorrow, but I may be going out of town, so who knows.

Great Day, Possible Step Up

Today was another great day. I didn't play as much today as I have in past days, but I am planning on heading out, and don't think that I will be playing anymore tonight, unless I play a freeroll when I get home.

I ended up getting a almost 1100 hands today, and showed a profit of $2.49, bringing me to just over $20. I think that tomorrow I am going to end up playing 3 tables of .02/.04, and 1 table of .05/.10, and see where I end up, and how I start doing in it. I have been going for 13 days, missing only one playing day, and have had all but one day showing a profit. I don't expect that to happen when I start getting to higher limits, but it is nice to be able to take advantage of it while I can.

Well, I think that I am off of here for the night. Back at it tomorrow, and hopefully I might have a job soon, so things might start to get a little better for me :)

Another Good Day

Well today was a good day. I had to do a little work and had little sleep, so I took a nap and didn't get to play any until after 7:00PM, but managed to have a nice profitable day.

Anyways, on the felt I managed to get a little more than 1600 hands in. It is amazing how quickly the hands can add up when multitabling 6 max games. As for the results of today, I managed to profit $2.01 in the 1600 hands, bringing to me just shy of $18.00. I am done playing the cash game today, but am still playing in a freeroll tournament to try and win one of the round 2 tickets to the $2000 freerolls.

Originally I was going to wait until I got to $25 before I started playing some .05/.10, but since I am multitabling mostly, I have considered adding my first .05/.10 table when I reach $20, and if I have 4 tables going, playing three .02/.04 and one .05/.10 game until I happen to reach the $25 mark, and then add another to go 2 and 2 between the two games, and by $30, I think I was to be totally up to .05/.10.

It is amazing to think where I have come in the last 12 days since I started this challenge. It is getting close to $20 playing .02/.04. I can't wait to see what it will be like when I can actually start making some real money from higher limits, and with a real bankroll, there should be little problems with going bust.

Below is a look of what I have done so far in the .02/.04 game from Poker Tracker. Does anyone think that I need to loosen up a little, or is 27% high enough for a 6max game? Sorry it is so small, but if you click it, it will become a full size image.

Eh?!?!

Today was a blah day. I was up and down all day, and just couldn't get anything together. I ended the day up $.51 over 2300+ hands.

After some quick math, it now looks like it could take up to 30,000 hands if my winrate gets to 2BB/100 hands to be able to get up to a level that I can mix in some .05/.10 into my play. I am waiting til I get to $25 before I start to do that. I am up to 16100+ hands though.

Another Day Gone

I managed to play another winning day of $.02/.04 limit holdem :) It was a fun day. There was oOne thing that I noticed, that seemed slightly funny. There was one guy that seemed to be telling people how to play, what to watch for, how it is rigged, etc. I thought to myself that most of the people that are playing .02/.04 are either strictly having fun, have very little money, or are not good enough to play at a higher limit. If that is the case, let them play the way the do, and exploit their weaknesses. Let them learn for themselves how to play better, don't teach them while you are playing.

As for todays session, I almost got 1800 hands, and showed a profit of $4.03, a little more than 5.5 BB/100 hands.

Since the start of this challenge, I have played 13,859 hands, $16.95 profit, and 3.05 BB/100 hands. I think that I was on the low end of the number of hands needed to get to a level to move up. I had originally thought that it would take 15k-16k hands to get to $25 so that I could start to play some .05/.10 limit. Now, I am thinking that it will be closer to the 20k range. Either way, I will get there sooner or later. If I hadn't played those two tournaments, I would have had another $2.20 in my bankroll.

The more that I play, the more that I notice that if you have a sufficient bankroll, going bust would be tough. I know that I am no where near a reasonable bankroll for anything other that .02/.04 right now, but once you have a bankroll established, as long as you have the ego to be able to step down a limit, going bust is going to be very difficult. Going up in limits might be a little tougher, but actual busting would be tough.

I have still not started to do much review of my sessions, but know that I will have to start doing that more when I can manage to get up to the higher levels. I can get by now at the lowest limits, but as the play/players get better, I am going to have to do some things to improve to be able to keep going up.

Long Day of Playing

Well, I had nothing to do today, so I made the most of it playing cards. It wasn't a great day, but a profitable one. I played a $1.10 tourney as well, so that takes a little out of the bankroll.

I managed to play 4161 hands of .02/.04, and showed a cash game profit of $1.89. It should have been better, but it happens. I don't know how many times I flopped 2 pair to lose the hand to a straight, flush, or something else. It was amazing. I would guess it happened about 50 times, but I could be a little off. Either way, it happened way more today that it has ever happened to me in a single session.

I am looking over a couple things in PokerTracker, and it is amazing to see that I made $1.89, but "paid" $4.52 in rake. For some people who don't pay attention to rake or think that it doesn't matter, especially in the lower limits, don't realize what they are paying in rake.

Not sure how much I am going to get done tomorrow, we will see, but I doubt it reaches the 4k hands that today got :)

A Day Off Yesterday, and A Crazy Day Today

I took yesterday off from poker and had some fun with some friends. Went back to the virtual felt today for some .02/.04 limit action. It started out as a horrible day as I was down almost $3 at one point.

As it was, I ended the day up a couple bucks. I got over 2000 hands in today, and up to 7500ish hands since last week, while still maintaining a 3+BB/100 hand winrate. Not much else today, kinda tired and heading to bed.

So Much Better Than Yesterday

Today turned out to be a good day. I didn't start by digging myself a 10-20 BB hole to try and climb out of. I managed to start good, and stay good. It didn't hurt that there was a maniac at one of my tables that I had 22 hands at the table with and he raised/reraised 20 out of the 22 hands. He managed to end up down $2+ in 22 hands.

Today I managed to play a measly 822 hands, and posting a $2+ profit, to get back most of what I had lost yesterday. Glad to see that it was only a one day losing streak. I would hate to see a bigger losing streak this early since I am just beginning to get the bankroll started. I do think that I might have played a little too tight today. I only have a VPIP% of 21% playing on 6-max tables.

I am up to almost 6000 hands since starting on Wednesday, and have a bankroll of $8.85. That is pretty much on key to my 3-4BB/100 hand goal to get to $25 around hand 15-16000. If this keeps up, I should be able to get to 15k hands by Sunday or so, and possibly move up to .05/.10 limit. For the most part now I have been 3 and 4 tabling the tables now, and think that I might start to add one .05/.10 table in the mix once I get to about $20, and by $30 playing exclusive .05/.10.

It is amazing how much rake is taken out of these microstakes games. In the 6k hands I have played that show a profit of $9+, I have had $7+ taken out in rake. That is just amazing to think about when you are talking pennies at a time.

I have also been doing some thinking recently, and realize that I need to do more to help my game. One thing that I have not been doing that is at my disposal and can definitely help is reviewing sessions. I am going to start to reviewing sessions, and hopefully if there are any other micro limit holdem players that would like to exchange reviews, I would like to start doing that. Anything to start helping more now while "lessons" don't cost me as much as they will during higher levels.

I have also been doing some reading of Small Stakes Holdem since it is a limit based book. I am doing anything I can to help along they way, even though I have been playing cards for a few years now.

What A downer

Today was my first downswing in BR size. I ended up not having to do any work today, so I got a lot of hands in, but wasn't productive. I know that I tilted a little. It seemed if I had AK, flop was 7 high, and if I had JJ, flop was AKQ and everyone had at least one of them.

As for the .02/.04 limit games, I played 2032 hands today, and was down $1.43. Definitely not a good day.

At 7:00, i decided I was going to play a tourney. I bought into the $1.00+$.10 that started at 7:00. 1700+ runners to start. I ended up busting in 351st place.

Starting Bankroll: $9.01
Ending Bankroll: $6.48

Today Was A Good Day

Well, today was a great day. I could have asked much more from what I was doing. It is amazing to notice how some people are either completely donking around at the .02/.04 limit level, or doing whatever they are doing. The one nice thing to notice about this is that they will give you plenty of chance to win a big pot. I ended up taking a pot that was 3 bet preflop between 3 player, and then capped on every street after I had flopped a set, so there was over 25 BB in the pot.

I was also doing some thinking between last night and today about when to move up. I was thinking when I had something along the lines of 200-300 BB for the next level I would move up. That would be somewhere around a $20-$30 bankroll for me to go up to the next level of $.05/.10 limit. I also was trying to do a little math to figure out when I would be able to get there, and if I could manage to win between 3 and 4 BB/100 hands, which is definitely doable at this level, I should get there after 15000ish hands. I think that a winrate of that or even possibly higher with some of the play at this level is definitely attainable.

As for today, I managed to play a little over 1100 hands, all of .02/.04 6 Max limit poker. Again, I found myself spewing some bets, and going into a hole when I first started. I was down about 30BB in the first 100 hands and then had to make a comeback, which I did nicely. On a sidenote, I did happen to get pocket 7s 14 times today (way to many times) and did not flop or get a single set :(

Getting 1000 or so hands a day could get me to move up to the next level in about 2 weeks, which will be nice. Grinding is ok, not that great, but grinding pennies is not that fun :)

Tomorrow I will have to do a little work with a friend, so I don't know how much I will be playing, though I am sure that I will try to get some time played in the evening.

What A Day!!!

Well I must say that today started out really badly. I lost 25 BB in a matter of 40 hands. I thought it was going to be a rough day, and a quick end/delay to this challenge. As it was, I ended up digging myself out of the hole, and make a nice little profit for the day.

I ended up playing 487 hands and ended up $1.59 on the day playing $.02/.04, just a hair of 8 BB/100 hands. I am starting to play more and more 6-max tables, and even selecting some that have 1 or 2 players so that I am playing heads up or 3 handed. There are some really bad players that I can take advantage of to be able to hopefully increase my bankroll a little quicker. Since I have started on Wednesday, I have played 1599 hands and have a 4.49BB/100 hand profit.

I played in a FL Freeroll, and finished in the 200 something range. I am posting early today because I plan on going out tonight, and don't think that I will be playing anymore tonight, or at least don't plan on it. Hopefully I will be able to get some serious time playing tomorrow.

EDIT: I have decided to go back to playing some more tonight. I will update my ending balance when I am done, along with anything special. I also managed to get a royal flush while I was playing.

I ended up playing almost 300 more hands, and got my balance up to

I think that I am going to use www.pokerhand.org to post hands that I want to share and hands for possible discussion.

Day 2

Well today was a profitable day. I played a couple freerolls, a 10 FPP $500 donkament, and of course some high stakes $.02/.04 limit holdem.

I played in another one of the Hawkings fixed limit freerolls. I ended up finishing about 225 or so in the freeroll, so I didn't get another weekly ticket. In the 10 FPP donkament, I managed to finish 178, for a $.50 cash. 3500+ runners.

As for the cash game, I had a couple tables that did really well, and some that weren't as good as the others. I ended up with a $.61 profit in the cash games, and there were a few hands that I wish ended up differently. I could have easily had a $1 profit if some hands played out differently. One that sticks out was my JJ vs AJ where the Ace came on the river. It was a multiway pot to the turn, capped preflop, so the pot was worthwhile.

Since yesterday when I placed in the tourney, I have played 1112 hands of $.02/.04, at both 6 max, and full ring tables. As I get further into this challenge, I will display some of my pokertracker stats.

I hope to eventually start putting some of my hands up for possible discussion and analysis.

The Start - $0.00 to $5,000

I am on a mission to do something similar to what Chris Ferguson has done. Granted, I am not as experienced Chris, but I feel that I can accomplish this with some patience. I am hoping to amass a bankroll in the $5,000 range while starting from zero. I know that bankroll management will be my biggest challenge as I sometimes try to play in games that I don't have the bankroll for.

I started yesterday on June 18, 2008 with a balance of $0.00 in my Pokerstars account. I happened to have some previous FPP point available, and used them to play in one of the $500 10 FPP donkaments that they have 3 times daily. I was able cash for $.40 and am starting to play some $.02/.04 limit holdem. They have a minimum buyin of $.20 for that game, so I can start to grind away and make some money. I hope to make this bankroll/challenge complete by playing mostly limit games, and some MTT donkaments.

When I went to sleep last night, I had a balance of $.87 so, I finished the day with a $.47 profit. I am already starting to plug away today, so I will update later tonight with todays results.

I also forgot to mention that I got a Round 2 Freeroll ticket in one of the Hawking FL Freerolls last night. Ended up finishing 14th out of 9720, with the top 99 getting a Round 2 ticket.
